Долининой (1923–2017) people did not know how to read, so many villagers turned to the girl’s grandmother to prepare sauce, pray to the spirits to protect them from calamities, and ask about the day when they can go on a long journey. Villagers work according to a calendar divided into 24 periods, which angered his grandmother: « 아니, 입춘이 섣달에 들었나, 정월에 들었나 물으러 올게 뭐 있나? » 1 . «...what is the need to ask whether the spring season came in the twelfth month or the first month according to the lunar calendar? According to the solar calendar, it is the same every year. Since the seasons are clearly defined, the length of night and day is the same, is the longest day and night the same calendar every year, or is it different every year, adding one more leap month?». But the common farmer, who believed in predictable days each year, did not change his season of 24 seasons. According to the solar calendar, the «new year» was seen as a breach of a strong wall by the Japanese government. No one understood the grandmother who realized the new development of the solar calendar, so only one family began to celebrate the new year according to the new calendar every year. Chapter 3 of Adiba’s novel Was the Mountain Really There is called Mad Magnolia. This chapter describes the main character, who is sent into forced exile by the North Korean government, and his niece and little nephew, who return after crossing the Imjin River. When they returned to Seoul, it was spring and it was a different day than usual. No matter what happens in the world, the bitter truth that the seasons change and the nature lives on is confirmed. Even though they had arrived in Seoul, the question of whether they would be able to meet their family members again was ringing in their hearts. The main character began to see a fortune in himself: if he finds a five-petalled flower while passing by a forsythia flower bush blooming on the side of the road over the wall, then trouble awaits him at home, if he does not find it, he will be safe. In fact, five-petalled forsythia were more common than four-petalled. The main character, having forgotten what he knew in his youth, was embarrassed as if he was caught in the web of his own deceptions. In the novel, PuckWanso alludes to larger issues by including details such as natural phenomena, a hill, ash, and a magnolia flower. In his desire to see his nation flawless, the artist fearlessly portrays the events candidly and vividly. Together with his niece and nephew, they pass through villages one after the other when the main character is forced to flee. The appearance of one such village was tragic. It doesn’t matter if it was caused by the North Korean army or the American army, the 1 박완서 . 그 많던싱아는누가다먹었을까 .( 주 ) 도서출판세계사 , 2012. 163–164 쪽 .
