The Ningtai Dian 寧泰店 workshop was among the ‘four big houses’ inWuqiang in the early Qing period (XVII cent.), whereas this woodblock print was produced in the middle of the XIX century. The family that owned the Ningtai workshop leased out the printing equipment in the Nanguan settlement 南關 , where there were over a hundred of tables for picture painting, fifty of which were located in the older part of the settlement. In the Shundefu county 顺德府 (modern Xingtai 邢台 , Hebei Province 河北 ), Pingshan 平山 and Zhangjiakou 張家口 there were three branches of Ningtai shop each with 30–50 printing tables, whereas the branch in the Inner Mongolia had 10 tables; the number of workers reached 300 persons, the production was all-year-round 2 .
