Round 2 茶謂酒曰 :阿你不聞道。 Tea addresses Wine: Yet you do not heed the voice of reason. 1 The expression 有酒有令 you jiu you ling refers to the 酒令 jiuling (“wine/drinking order”) entertainment complex, formed within Chinese culture in ancient times. The orders and rules of jiulin as a special kind of drinking games 酒戲 jiuxi regulated the process of wine drinking at banquets and meetings. Games and rituals of the “wine order” in China meant cultural leisure of both a democratic character (using bones, cubes, tags, chips, throwing arrows in a jug, etc.), as well as of a highly elite one, which required a deep knowledge of the classical philosophical and literary heritage. Inmany of these assignment “orders” famous poetic masterpieces, citations from ancient canons and historical and philosophical manuscripts, names of song motifs, plots of famous dramas, sayings from the official calendar and so on were used. 2 The expression 禮智仁義 li zhi ren yi means four out of five Confucian virtues: 禮 ( 禮 ) li — “ceremony”, “etiquette”; 智 zhi – “wisdom”, “mind”, “knowledge”; 仁 ren — “humanity”; 義 ( 義 ) yi — “duty”, “justice”. 3 In the original text, the given phrase is written as 人義禮之智 ren yi li zhi zhi , it is possible that the character 之 zhi was added in error.
