Литература стран Азии и Африки к 150-летию академика В. В. Бартольда (1869–1930). Ч. 1 361 when Vietnam was captured by the Chinese, and tells about rebels fighting against the Chinese occupation. As noted by V. I. Semanov, Dang Thay May, the first researcher who turned to the novel, was based on a manuscript without a title page, and was forced to give it an arbitrary name, which was also translated into the Vietnamese language of 1957 — «Additional Facts of the Late Chan Dynasty» (Dat su hau Tran) 1 . The phrase « dat su » (Chinese yi shi ) is a set Chinese expression that can be translated as «facts left without using», something left without using after careful and thoughtful selection of material for official historiographical writings. Thus, the Chinese historical tradition, Chinese epic novels had a signifi- cant impact on the major forms of traditional Vietnamese narrative prose « tieu thuyet ». Ko Jung San, Ku Chai Yeun (National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan) A General Survey on Baba Malay language Chinese Classic Novel Collections in Centre for Malaysian Chinese studies The Ji-xian Library of the Centre for Malaysian Chinese studies has a collection of Chinese classic novels written in Baba Malay language donated by Yang Gui-yi (1934- ), a Chinese-Malaysian lexicographer. According to the preliminary statistics and information released by the Research Centre, approximately 107 kinds of novels have been collected. However, no scholars have made a thorough study of these precious materials and there is only limited information on the reference of Chinese fiction written in Baba Malay language. In order to understand the dissemination, transplantation and influence of Chinese classic novels in the society of Peranakan Cina (Straits-born Chinese) in Singapore and Malaysia, with the approval of the research institute, this paper will give an overview on the number, date, content and publishers information of this collection, and compare it to the Baba Malay language novels collected by other units or individual collectors to see its specialty. Besides that, we are going to make a comparison of different translations and discuss their academic and reference value. Chinese classic novel in Baba Malay language is a mixture of Chinese cultural classics and the influence of Chinese immigrants from Singapore and Malaysia. It provides a great reference on the studies of Singaporean and Malaysian Chinese folk literature and further development of research in Chinese literature and comparative literature. Furthermore, these precious materials provide an important contribution to replenish the previous studies. 1 Semanov V. I.
